KMUTNB was established from the cooperation between Thai Government and the Federal Republic of Germany. It was known as the "North Bangkok Technical School" but generally called "Thai-German Technical School."
The School was upgraded to "North Bangkok Technical College"
Three technical colleges: North Bangk ok Technic al Colle g e, Thonburi Technical College, and Telec ommunic ation Colle g e Nonthaburi were merged and given a ne w name “King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology” which c omprised thr ee c ampuses, North Bangkok, Thonburi, and Ladkrabang.

KMUTNB extended its educational obligations to the rural areas, leading to the creation of the Prachinburi campus in Prachinburi province.

The establishment of Faculty of Information Technology in Bangkok campus. The establishment of Welding Institute of Thailand.

The Faculty of Information Technology was renamed as the Faculty of Information. Technology and Digital Innovation. The Department of Technological Education, Faculty of Technical Education was renamed as the Department of Technological Education and Information. The international Space Technology Institute for Economic Development was set up as a Department under the Office of the President.
